Periodically, throughout my thousand-plus articles on my website, I suggest certain books if you have any desire to understand what is happening currently in this country. Some of the books I recommend are “The Law” by Bastiat, “This Bread is Mine,” by Robert LeFevre, “Discovery of Freedom,” by Rose Wilder Lane, “Manchurian President” by Aaron Klein, plus reading the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. One can order these books from Amazon.com
Plus one of the most interesting, informative, and well written books I have ever read, titled “Witness,” by Whitaker Chambers. It’s a spellbinder, and so enlightening to help one understand what is taking place in the hallowed halls of government in Washington today.
Many were not around in the fifties, to hear the Congressional trial of the Alger-Hiss-Whitaker Chambers case, referred to as “The Pumpkin Papers” trial. But I vividly recall listening to the entire trial.
Whitaker Chambers was a dyed in the wool, card-carrying Communist, who worked in the State Department in Washington. And this book of 799 pages, graphically describes what goes on behind closed doors in Washington.
On the cover of Witness it states, “This great theme of Witness, is the ordeal of the human soul, caught in the 20th century’s conflicts of faiths, religion against materialism, freedom against Communism. In the 20th century it is every man’s ordeal. For every man has suffered, or within the next two decades will suffer, that ordeal and its consequences. Nevertheless, millions of men do not understand what that war of faiths is about, or the nature of that ordeal. “Witness” is Whitaker Chambers’ interpretation of both. It interprets them in the simplist terms, in this autobiography of a man who, after thirteen years as a Communist, repudiated Communism and fought it.”
It goes on to say Witness is in reality five books. A terrible true spy story. A shocking account of the Communist Fifth Column, which infiltrated the United States government and American life, as seen by a man who was there, took part in it and names names.
“The inside story of the Hiss case by the man who went through it step by step and who became the Government’s chief witness against Alger Hiss, the former High State Department official, convicted of perjury charges.”
“The clearest and most convincing answer yet given to the question, why did so many intellectuals in the early nineteen-thirties become Communists.”
“A human document unusual in any age, for before Whitaker Chambers could explain the meaning of the Hiss case, and of Communism, he had to explain himself. Witness is that explanation. In this book you meet a man who does not hesitate to bear witness, first of all against himself, disclosing facts other men commonly conceal. In no other way could he bear witness against the conspiracy which threatens all.
In the book while he was still trying to conceal to protect himself, he tells the story of hiding important documents, by cutting the tops from pumpkins in a pumpkin patch and hiding documents inside, replacing the tops.
The book gives the word for word transcript of the actual trial testimony of Chambers and Hiss, and their interrogation by Richard Nixon before he became President. Back then there was a committee on “Un-American Activities.”
“Today, of course, Communists in government and outside government are no longer card-carrying. This book provides insight to the degree of infiltration in government in Washington.”
In previous articles I have suggested one read the Karl Marx Communist Manifesto to understand the basic premise of how it works. However, all one needs to do is read this compelling and fascinating book, for a first hand account of how Communism works and the Philosophy of the system, which is the antithesis of freedom. Also an eye-opener relative to the degree of infiltration there is in government.
Even Russian leader Putin, has spoken about the Communism take-over in public schooling. With the degree of Communism in the schools and government, one should read this book to learn about it and how it operates. Until one does, you will not understand what is taking place in this country, as reported in nightly news.
The Transformation of America, and take-over of this country via Socialist Communism, is no happenstance, but the result of a well organized plot, make no mistake about that.
This book is rather rare and may be difficult to find, but try Amazon.com and Laissez Faire Books to locate a copy.
