The extent of intrusion of political government, usurping our inalienable Rights, never more glaringly apparent than my personal story relative to my battle with the State over Drivers License cancellation five years ago.
In my first two articles in this series, I explained some of the events and happenings relative to living this past five years unable to drive. The many hardships and problems I have endured because the political government here in the State of Georgia cancelled my license because of an error they made placing the wrong birth date on my license.
There is a difference in suspending one’s license and cancelling. There’s a finality to cancellation. For example, one might have their license suspended for 3 years for drunken driving, with hopes of reinstatement at the end of that period. In my situation the arbitrary cancellation was into perpetuity, unless I “created a birth certificate,” which I refused to do, and instead battled for my Right to Travel.
My story has a number of twists and turns and I have a large file compiled of correspondence back and forth with the Governor of Georgia and the various personnel in departments of licensing and motor vehicles. Documentation of all I tried to do for reinstatement, from the Social Security office for records to attempts to adhere with their policies of passport and military ID records, but all to no avail because they persistently demanded I create a birth certificate.
When I go to my bank I usually go inside, but a few days ago my daughter drove me through the drive-in window to cash a check. The clerk requested an ID because she had never seen me before. I handed my drivers license and seeing it was expired would not complete the transaction. A bank I have used many many years. I decided I would open an account at a second bank, and when I applied, could not open another account because my drivers license was cancelled. The very nice young lady informed me I could obtain a government ID card, but they required some valid ID with a picture to open a new account.
On the way there I mentioned to my daughter, there’s a possibility they have reinstated without notifying me. Recalling they had cancelled without notification and discovered the cancellation when I went to the post office to make a change of address.
I waited for my number to be called at the DDS office, and handed the lady at the window my paperwork for an ID card along with my expired and cancelled drivers license. She beamed my records up on her computer, then asked me if I wanted my license renewed along with the ID card. So surprised I barely breathed out “Yes.”
She took my picture and issued me a temporary new drivers license and informed me another license would be sent in the mail. Apparently the cancellation notice had been lifted without any notification.
My last letter to Governor Perdue was in January, when he referred me to Greg Dozier of the Department of Drivers services. I immediately wrote another letter to Mr. Dozier in January and he never responded. That’s the reason I mentioned to my daughter they may have reinstated, because of refusal to respond to my letter. Did not bother to show me the common courtesy of a notice that the cancellation had been lifted. This is typical treatment used by tax-paid employees. Many are so mean-spirited and arrogant, greedy and power struck, they refuse to act with common decency and common courtesy to those paying their salaries.
After the encounter with the bank, I had begun preparation to file a lawsuit against the State for denying me my right to Drive for five years, based upon an error they made. Because of health issues I had delayed getting into all the work required when preparing a lawsuit. But feeling much better and having to obtain a government ID, without any indication the State was ever going to reinstate my drivers license, my last letter to Mr. Dozier was the last I planned on writing. I felt as though I had exhausted all means of attempts at reinstatement through reason and rationale via correspondence.
On the way home from the DDS office with the new drivers license in hand, I thought about the philosopher and military strategist Sun Tzu, who said in any battle, “Know yourself and know your enemy.” I know myself well enough to know I would never submit to their demands to create a birth certificate. And on the drive to the DDS office, know enough about how political government operates to suspect they are mean-spirited enough to never notify me if they did decide to reinstate. So I mentioned to my daughter the possibility they had reinstated.
Realizing this once great nation founded upon the Principles of Personal Freedom and Private Property ownership, has almost completely been Transformed to Socialism as outlined in the Karl Marx Manifesto, we are in the last stages of President Obama’s promise to “Transform America.” In these last stages, with the news the federal government is deep in debt and the majority of state budgets broke and in debt, now we are hearing about government employee layoffs. Out of this abysmal news, I for one am happy to hear those on government payrolls who have so abused their jobs and positions are facing termination.
None of us can escape the Law of the Circle, that which goes around comes around. For the unwilling victim, as I have been, with five years being denied my Constitutional Right to travel, it all seems a long time coming.
My next step is buying a vehicle. No one can imagine how excited I am over having transportation to hop in and drive to the grocery store and roam around in these beautiful hills of North Georgia. Fortunately my wonderful daughter-in-law and daughter have willingly carted me around for the past five years. But there’s nothing like feeling the Freedom to hop in one’s own vehicle and go go go, anytime of the day or night.
The father of the Revolution, Samuel Adams, said: “All might be Free if they valued Freedom, and defended it as they should.” Very apropo quote at the stage this once Free country is now in. It’s because the ordinary Citizens for the most part have not stood up for their freedoms, when they have had the chance to do so. Instead have surrendered to the dictates of politicians, yielding and giving in to whatever is dictated by those paying their salaries. Now facing the crisis we are in, and facing collapse of life in the greatest country the world has ever known.
